Zebra Cake From “Zoom!” – OPB/PBS

Remember the show "Zoom!" on PBS? This was one of the recipes they shared and was a huge hit with our family.
  • 1 package “Famous” chocolate wafer cookies (Nabisco brand)
  • 1 8 oz. tub of Cool Whip or other whipped topping
  • Plastic wrap

  1. Lay out 2 long pieces of plastic wrap – ~2 ft. – over a large cookie sheet on a solid surface.
  2. Starting with a chocolate wafer, “butter” one side of the cookie with 1 Tbl. whipped topping.
  3. Top with a cookie. Butter that cookie, and stack a new cookie on top of the previous one. Repeat as many times as long as you want, about 14”.
  4. Stand the “log roll” on its side. You are creating a pattern of black, white, black, white, and so forth until you use all that you want.
  5. “Frost” the outside of the log with remaining whipped topping.
  6. Carefully fold over the plastic wrap to cover the “cake”.
  7. Take the “cake” and put it in the freezer, to freeze for at least 2 hours.
  8. Remove and put in fridge for 1 hour prior to serving.
  9. When serving, take out the cake and unwrap it. Using a sharp knife, cut diagonally across the cake, making a striped section. Serve immediately.
