Sometimes it is the smallest memories of something that bring the biggest smiles. After my maternal grandfather's death, his mother and sister came to Oregon to visit us. The highlight of the trip was my great-grandmother teaching us how to make an old family treat that she would make when her kids were little. Who knew that honey could be turned to taffy?
- 2 cups Fresh honey
- ½ teaspoons baking soda
- Cook only
honey until it spins or makes a hard ball in cold water.
- Once honey
is cooked, sprinkle baking soda on top and stir.
- Put in pie tins.
Let it cool.
- After cooled
(but not cold), butter hands and stretch and fold until taffy becomes shiny.
- Roll into
long rope and cut 1 inch pieces. Wrap in wax paper.
